KIplatz is a free AI chatbot from Austria that's owned and operated by its community. It's for anyone who wants an AI tool without corporate data collection, advertising, or tracking. You don't even need an account to ask a question.

Instead of running in a massive data center, KIplatz is powered by the spare computing resources of its members' personal computers. This distributed model is central to its design. It is a collective project.

The chatbot's approach is built on a few key principles:

  • Community-owned: The project is built and run by its members, not a company.
  • Privacy first: It's GDPR-compliant and doesn't store your questions or personal data.
  • Cited sources: Every answer shows you where the information came from, so you can verify it yourself.
  • Distributed power: The AI runs on a network of volunteer computers, making it independent of large server farms.

While you can use the chatbot instantly, you can also contribute by creating an account and running the KIplatz program on your Windows PC. The software lets you decide how much of your computer's power to share with the network, helping answer questions for everyone else. The project offers a transparent, user-controlled alternative to commercial AI services.
